How to Lower your Electricity Consumption at Home

1. Turn off and unplug.

4. Use Electric Fans.

Whenever possible, you should lessen your use of air conditioner and use electric fans instead. Fans consume less power than air conditioners and are a better, more eco-friendly way of circulating air inside your home.

5. Shower instead of taking a bath.

Use the shower when you bathe: it uses less water than filling up a tub and thus requiring less power to replenish the hot water in your water heater. You can also save more electricity and water by switching
to newer and more efficient shower heads.

6. Do regular maintenance.

Clean, adjust, and inspect electrical appliances in a regular manner. You can save power consumption by just wiping the dust off your electric fan blades or by keeping your refrigerator clean. By doing
regular check up on your electronic appliances, you not only maintain the good condition of your device, but you also maximize its usage and maybe even extend its life span. Of course, you must also make sure to follow proper cleaning methods and you must always refer to the user’s operating manual of a specific appliance for your own safety. Repairs should only be done in manufacturer authorized service centers by authorized technicians.

7. Switch to rechargeable batteries and laptop computer.

Rechargeable batteries costs less in the long run and are more eco-friendly compared to disposable batteries. Nowadays, the use of laptop computers instead of desktop computers is proven to be more practical because laptops have rechargeable batteries that only need to be recharged after more or less two hours of continued use. Laptops require less power to operate therefore they are far more energy efficient than desktop computers.
